A large company that provides security services to airports worldwide. MINDS can detect one-billionth of the material deemed plausible to create a radiological dispersion device--a "dirty bomb." It is capable of differentiating among naturally occurring radioactive elements, authorized medical and acceptable industrial nuclear substances, and threat materials. As MINDS scans a target, in approximately one second the system senses, identifies, and transmits the presence of radioactive materials at levels slightly above background. Also, since it is a passive system, it does not need to emit a radiation signal to excite the target source. MINDS can be fitted with up to three different radiation detectors, or heads, to cover a whole gamut of nuclear radiation. The detector heads can include, for example, a boron trifluoride or helium tube to detect neutrons; a PIN diode or a cadmium zinc telluride detector to detect x-rays and low-energy gamma rays; and a sodium iodide crystal to detect higher energy gamma rays. MINDS is typically configured to work with a laptop, but can also employ desk tops and main frames to store a library of the nuclear spectra or nuclear "signatures" of radioactive elements in conjunction with advanced artificial intelligent algorithms.

1 Accounting policies The following accounting policies have been applied consistently in dealing with items which are considered material in relation to the Group's financial statements. Basis of preparation The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards, and under the historical cost accounting rules. Basis of consolidation The consolidated financial statements incorporate the financial statements of the Company and all its subsidiary undertakings under the acquisition method of accounting. Under section 230 4 ; of the Companies Act 1985 the Company is exempt from the requirement to present its own profit and loss account. New accounting standards The Group has adopted, in these financial statements, the following new standards that are applicable to the Group's business: FRS 21 "Events after the balance sheet date"; FRS 22 "Earnings per share"; and FRS 28 "Corresponding amounts". The adoption of each of these standards has not precipitated any changes in accounting policies and therefore there is no requirement to restate comparative figures. Turnover Turnover represents the value, net of value added tax, of rent and services provided to tenants and customers, respectively. Rental income is recognised on a straight line basis over the lease term. Fee income is recognised upon the relating services having been completed. Research and development Research and development expenditure includes all third party costs payable in respect of licence fees, university contract research and development fees, external contractors' charges and laboratory consumables but excludes patent costs, which are disclosed separately, any costs relating to scientists or other staff employed by the Group, or other costs relating to the day-to-day running of the Group's laboratories at The Bioscience Innovation Centre in Cambridge. Research and development expenditure is written off to the profit and loss account in the year in which it is incurred. Financial instruments The Group's financial instruments comprise investments in subsidiaries, cash and short-term treasury deposits, trade debtors and trade creditors that arise directly from its operations. All of these instruments are sterling denominated. It is the Group's policy not to trade in derivative instruments, or to enter into hedging transactions. The Group does not have any committed borrowing facilities as its cash and short-term treasury deposits are sufficient to finance its current operations. Cash and short-term treasury deposits are held with quality financial institutions in line with the Group's policy to minimise the risk of loss. The main risk associated with the Group's financial instruments relates to interest rate risk. The Group's policy in relation to interest rate risk is to monitor interest rates for deposits up to six months and to place cash on deposit for periods that optimise the amount of interest earned while maintaining access to sufficient funds to meet day-to-day cash requirements. Leases Assets acquired under leases are reviewed to see if they are finance leases or operating leases, based on the extent to which the lease transfers ownership of the asset. Costs in respect of operating leases are charged to profit and loss in equal annual amounts over the lease term. Assets held under finance leases are capitalised in the balance sheet and depreciated over their useful lives and the capital elements of future obligations under the leases are included as liabilities in the balance sheet. Pension costs The Group operates a defined contribution pension scheme and a stakeholder pension scheme. The assets of these schemes are held in independently administered funds. The amount charged to the profit and loss account represents the contributions payable to the schemes in respect of the accounting period. Foreign currencies Transactions in foreign currencies are translated into sterling at the rates of exchange ruling at the date of the transaction and any exchange differences are charged or credited to the profit and loss account in the year in which they arise.

Once again, the powerful influence of the TUMS Digest becomes apparent. --Apparent through the type of battle our competitors are waging against us. As you may have noiced, one of the leading rivals of the Digest, is now trying a different battle, in an effort to trick us into complacency. The rival? The Tulsa Daily World. The different strategy now being attempted by The World? Appeasement. --Appeasement, in an effort to throw us off guard. "What in the world has The World done to try to appease us?" asked Art Browning, speaking only on condition of anonymity. "Why, they've given us a nice picture and caption, and invited people to come visit our general meeting, " replied Bob Clark, a usually reliably-informed source. Yes, it's true. On page D4 of their March 11th edition, The Tulsa World ran a two-column photograph of the iMac, along with the following caption: "Hey, Mac. If the above iMac -- or any Apple computer -- is giving you fits, stop by the Q&A session before the meeting of the Tulsa Users of Macintosh Society. Questions are taken at 6: 15 p.m. Tuesday before the 7 p.m. meeting at Hardesty Regional Library, 6737 S. 85th East Ave." TUMS Secretary Holly Romine, who every month sends our meeting notice to The World, disavows any prior knowledge of the extra publicity given to TUMS. "I know that under `Today's Events' they try to run a picture which ties in with one of the events being listTUMS Digest 8.

7.11 Post Electroconvulsive Therapy Headache: Diagnostic Preliminary research criteria: A. Headache has at least one of the following characteristics: Any headache B. Electroconvulsive therapy C. Headache occurs within 4 hours after ECT and with at least 50% of treatments D. Headache lasts 72 hours after ECT A. One of the following: 1. Moderate or severe headache which meet criteria for Migraine 1.1 or 1.7. 2. Headache is throbbing in character. B. Onset of headache after full consciousness is regained and within 24 hours of ECT. Comment Clear descriptions of headaches associated with ECT are sparse. Published data may not be adequate to operationally define post-ECT headache. The characteristics of headache after ECT are noted in several case reports. Hawken et al. 2001 ; reported on a patient who suffered from "mild migraine" every two to three days and "more severe" migraine every seven to ten days after ECT symptoms listed correspond with IHS diagnostic criteria for migraine without aura ; . Headache developed immediately after the patient regained consciousness after sessions of ECT. On one of six occasions the headache was associated with nausea but other symptoms of migraine were not described in this report. The headache did not respond to sumatriptan but was alleviated by a combination of propranolol and naproxen, and appeared to be prevented by administration of propranolol prior to ECT. De Battista and Mueller 1995 ; described a patient who developed severe post-ECT unilateral headaches associated with nausea vomiting and photophobia. The patient had a history of similar although less intense headaches. Prophylactic administration of sumatriptan 171.

By Don Mitchell "Hey, " said Terry Williams, "if U.S. presidents can give talks on The State of the Union, and if Governors can give talks on The State of their State, why shdouldn't I give a talk on THE STATE OF THE MACINTOSH?" Terry Williams is the Apple Representative in the Tulsa area. Each year, at this time, the Apple Rep makes a presentation to TUMS to tell us what's happening at Apple, and what new, exciting things Apple has on the Macintosh horizon. "At the upcoming TUMS meeting, I'm going to cover `where we're at and where we're going, '" Williams said. "I'm going to talk on `The State of the Macintosh.' And I can tell you, in advance, that the state of the Macintosh is excellent. Nothing but positive. Nothing but exciting." Terry Williams pointed out that Apple has just been named one of the top innovative companies in the world! And he said he'd talk about that. Williams also pointed out that, while sales of the pardon the expression ; PCs are drifting downward, sales of Macintosh are going up and up and up. He said he'd talk about that, too. Williams will give us a run-down on Steve Job's presentation at the recent MacWorld Expo. He may even have video of part of this landmark talk. And Terry will tell us more details of the Macintosh move in taking on the Intel central processor. He'll point out how the public is turning from desktops to laptops, and will give us inside info on the new Macintosh iBooks. He'll even cover the Mac Minis -- the entry-level desktop Mac. "Apple is especially eager to keep our User Groups informed, " Williams said. "You User Groups are critical. You are our evangelists. So I'm really excited about making this presentation at your August meeting." TUMS members, this is definitely a "must attend" meeting. Where else would you get to witness a presentation such as this.? Think of it! Inside information on Apple, direct from the Apple Representative. Get details from the box below. Mark your calendars. And be certain to attend. We'll be expecting you and valdecoxib.
Available-for-sale investments Under U.S. GAAP, investments classified as available-for-sale are carried at fair value, with any related unrealized gain or unrealized temporary loss recorded as a separate component of equity. In 2001 and 2002, the 11.8% investment in Clariant was recorded as an available-for-sale investment FAS 115 ; . The value of Hoechst's remaining interest in Clariant was therefore adjusted through equity in order to reflect its market value. The deferred tax liability resulting from such step-up was also recorded through equity. In 2003, the Group sold its investment in Clariant. An impairment is recognized on such available-for-sale securities whenever an ``other than temporary'' decline in market value exists. A significant decline in market value over an extended period of time for example six to nine months ; is generally presumed to qualify as an ``other than temporary'' decline resulting in an impairment recognition. Accordingly the Group recorded an U.S.$ 76 million e 80 million ; impairment loss with regard to its investment in Millennium Pharmaceuticals under U.S. GAAP as of December 31, 2002. As of December 31, 2003, no additional impairment was required. Under French GAAP such investments are classified either as strategic investments or other investments: Strategic investments are recorded at cost. An impairment is recorded whenever the value-in-use of a strategic investment is lower than its carrying value. The value-in-use approach includes, among other things, consideration of strategic aspects, derived economic benefits, share market price and long-term holding intention and ability. Other investments are carried at the lower of cost or net realizable value.
